Pixar insists it won't make live-action remakes: 'It doesn't look interesting'

Don't wait for live-action remakes of famous Pixar animations. At least, not in the next few years. That's what the studio's creative head Pete Docter said in an interview with TIME released this Tuesday (11). "This may backfire on me, but it bothers me [the requests for live-action]. I like to make films that are original and unique in themselves. Remaking them doesn't seem interesting to me personally," declared the producer. One of the most talked about possibilities recently was a live-action remake of Ratatouille to star Rivals star Josh O'Connor.

"It would be difficult [to make a cute mouse in live-action," Docter said. "A lot of what we create only works because of the rules of the animation world. So if you have a human walking around in a house that floats, immediately your mind goes, 'Wait a minute. Houses are super heavy. How are these balloons lifting it?'. But if an animated doll does that, you believe it. These worlds that we created are not easily transformed", he explained. Despite not producing live-action remakes, Pixar is investing in sequels and has high expectations for Inside Out 2, its next release.

Everything about Inside Out 2

In Inside Out 2, Riley will be a teenager and, because of this, she will have new emotions such as Anxiety, which will be voiced by Maya Hawke (Stranger Things), Boredom, Shame, and Envy, in addition to the original quintet with Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. Amy Poehler will return as the voice of Joy in English, Phyllis Smith will return as Sadness, and comedian Lewis Black will play Anger again. Replacing Bill Hader as Fear will be Tony Hale, and replacing Mindy Kaling in the voice of Disgusting will be Liza Lapira.

In the Brazilian dubbing, Mia Melo continues as Alegria, Otaviano Costa as Medo, Dani Calabresa as Nojinho, Leo Jaime as Anger, and Katiuscia Conoro as Tristeza. Also joining the team of voice actors from Inside Out 2 are Tatá Werneck as Ansiedade, Eli Ferreira as Tédio, Gaby Milani as Enveja, and Fernando Mendonça as Vergonha. Kelsey Mann is directing the sequel and Meg LeFauve will write. The director of the original, Pete Docter, also contributed ideas for the sequel, which has been discussed at Pixar since 2016. The film will follow the emotions in a new adventure inside the mind of the girl Riley.

Inside Out 2 opens on June 20, 2024 in theaters.
