Due to the one-year postponement of The Batman Part II, fans began to speculate whether the future of the trilogy planned by director Matt Reeves for the incarnation of the hero played by Robert Pattinson was safe. A rumor then emerged that given James Gunn's plan to have his Batman in the DCU, Reeves' universe would have been canceled. Now, Gunn has answered that. Responding to a fan on his Instagram, Gunn seemed incredulous that this was a rumor in the first place. "Of course not," he replied with a rolling eyes emoji. The comment was registered on Reddit.

Not much is known about The Batman: Part II yet, except for the returns of Matt Reeves as director and Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. Other cast members such as Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright are expected to return. The ending of the first film suggested that Barry Keoghan's Joker would be the villain. The film's script is by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. The Batman: Part II will be part of the Elseworlds label, used for DC productions that are not part of the main universe managed by James Gunn, where the features will have the DCU label. The Batman film produced by Gunn will be The Brave and the Bold, a Bruce Wayne story with his son, Damian Wayne, as Robin.

In addition to the continuation of The Batman, the Gotham City universe created by Matt Reeves will be expanded with a series focused on Colin Ferrell's Penguin and Arkham Asylum, where the Riddler is imprisoned at the end. To top it off, the director is also exploring the idea of making films about other villains of the hero. Released in Brazilian cinemas in 2022, the new Batman puts Robert Pattinson in the role of a young Bruce Wayne, in his first years as the Dark Knight. Zoë Kravitz will play Catwoman, Colin Farrell is the Penguin, Paul Dano plays the villain Riddler and John Turturro is Carmine Falcone.

Jeffrey Wright will play the new Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis will play Alfred. Matt Reeves, from the recent Planet of the Apes trilogy, is the director. The story features a younger Batman (Pattinson), at the beginning of his career, facing the villain Riddler (Dano) for the first time, here presented more as a Zodiac-style serial killer than a madman fascinated by enigmas. The Batman is available on HBO Max. The Batman: Part II premieres on October 1, 2026.
