Game of Thrones characters Dunk and Egg are getting closer to their HBO debut. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has announced an update on the upcoming spin-off series from the phenomenon series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight. “George R.R. Martin is in pre-production for the new spin-off which will debut at the end of 2025 on Max,” said Zaslav. Production on the show is expected to begin this year.

Game of Thrones sequels and prequels

Given that the second season of House of the Dragon will be released this year (probably this summer), the date of Knight of the Seven Kingdoms next year increases the chances that HBO will settle into a drama production flow about Game of Thrones every year (assuming both shows manage to film their next seasons within two years). As reported earlier this month, HBO is also developing a prequel series about Aegon's conquest, from The Batman: Part II writer Mattson Tomlin. Other ideas set in Martin's fantasy world are also in development, though only House of the Dragon and Knight of the Seven Kingdoms have been greenlit.

The plot of The Edge Knight

The Hedge Knight is based on Martin's popular trio of Dunk and Egg novellas, which tell the story of "Dunk" (the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan the Tall) and "Egg" (the future King Aegon V Targaryen ) as they wander Westeros having adventures some 100 years before the events of the novels. The synopsis is as follows “A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes roamed Westeros. A young, naive but brave knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his little squire, Egg. In a time when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet faded from living memory, great destinies, mighty enemies and perilous deeds await these unlikely and peerless friends."
