These days, fans are enjoying the live-action adaptation of Avatar – The Last Airbender, which immediately jumped to first place among the most-watched series of the week on Netflix. However, the original interpretation of the streaming platform will only be the beginning: starting in 2025, there will be a lot of content arriving for all fans of this narrative universe. But let's go in order. The original work, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, is basically made up of two main series: Avatar – The Last Airbender (2005-2008) and Avatar – The Legend of Korra (2012-2014).

In addition to comics, books, and video games, the two main adaptations are the feature film The Last Airbender by M. Night Shyamalan and, indeed, the new live-action series by Netflix. The latter was supposed to be supervised by DiMartino and Konietzko, who however abandoned the project during production due to creative differences with Netflix. Shortly after, in February 2021, the two creators announced the birth of Avatar Studios, an internal division of Nickelodeon dedicated solely to the production of films and TV series (both animated and live-action) set in the narrative universe of The Last Airbender. The contents that will be produced will arrive, depending on the case, in cinemas, on Paramount+, or on other digital platforms.

These will be very exciting years, therefore, for all Avatar fans. Below are all the projects currently in progress.

2025 – Untitled adult Aang movie

The first film that Avatar Studios will bring to the cinema will be an animated product, set according to initial information 12 years after the end of the original series. The protagonists, however, will be the same: in particular, we will find Aang and Katara adults, at 24 and 26 years old, respectively. Sokka, Toph and Zuko are also with them. The project, which according to rumors could bear the title Hidden Kingdom, will arrive in American theaters on October 10, 2025.

2025 – Untitled TV series about a new Avatar

In the same year, an animated series will arrive on Paramount+ which will focus on a new protagonist, namely the new Avatar after Aang and Korra. According to early rumors, the story will be set 100 years after The Legend of Korra and will feature an earthbender. It is currently unknown whether the hero will be a boy or a girl. The character of Kyoshi, the last Avatar of the Earth according to the show's canon, could also play an important role in this work.

2026 – Untitled Zuko movie

One of the most anticipated projects is undoubtedly the film starring Zuko, a character much loved by the fandom. Initially an enemy of Aang & co., the exiled prince is convinced that capturing the Avatar can restore him in the eyes of his father, the fire lord Ozai. However, during the original series, we witness his change and maturation, up to the choice to take the side of the protagonists. Zuko will now be the absolute protagonist of a film dedicated to him. For the moment we do not know the period in which the story will be set, although it is assumed that it will be the same as the feature film about Aang and Katara as adults.

2027 – Untitled film about a new Avatar

The 2027 film will follow the 2025 animated series, bringing to the cinema an adventure of the new Avatar successor to Aang and Korra.

Finally, two further TV series are in the works, arriving in 2026 and 2027 respectively, on which no details have yet been revealed.
